Energy is measured in calories. Calories are usually used to measure temperature. Human being needs energy to be healthy, to live and to do any work. This energy is obtained by human beings through food. How much food a person needs, how many calories of energy he requires varies depending on the age, profession and region. A thirty year person required nearly 3,500 calories of energy per day. Young persons need more energy. People who live in cold regions, pregnant women and those who perform heavy physical work would require additional energy. Carbohydrates, proteins and fats are the main sources of energy. Human beings get sixty percent of their energy from carbohydrates. They get twenty percent energy from proteins and twenty percent energy from fats. Intake of more calories may lead to obesity. Less consumption of calories will lead to weakness. Taking balanced diet, exercising are the important things to do for maintaining good health.
