Chlorophyll for Green Color of Plants | Some Plants Also Have Phenols in the Leaves
Chlorophyll is responsible for the green color of leaves. But this does not meant that leaves contain only chlorophyll exclusively. Along with chlorophyll, many chemical elements will be present in the leaves. Leaves of Mehandi and Hibiscus have phenols with acid nature. So, when they come into contact with the nail or skin, they get bonded chemically with melanin protein layer on the top of skin. This bonding builds a cell structure which turns the color of skin into red gradually. Leaves of other plants do not have phenols of such nature. Hence, color of skin does not change even if they are applied to skin.
