Where Kilimanjaro Mountain Is Situated And How was It Formed?
Kilimanjaro is an area situated in the Tanzania country of Africa continent. A mountain located here is called as the Kilimanjaro Mountain. This is the highest mountain in the entire Africa continent. Kilimanjaro mountain is also occupied the fourth position in the seven summits of the world.
No particular cause has been proved for naming this mountain with the name ‘Kilimanjaro’. Several reasons have been explained by local folk tales. The word ‘Kilima’ meant mountain in Swahili language and ‘Njaro’ meant whitish or sparkling. Kilimanjaro Mountain is a Strata volcano formed when lava spilled out from the rift valley zone about 10 lakh years ago. This mountain is a compilation of three hillocks of volcano namely Kibo, Mawenji and Shira out of which Kibo is the longest. The height of Kibo is 5895 meters where as height of Mawenji is 5149 meters and the height of Shira is 3962 meters. The volcanic symptoms have vanished completely in Mawenji and Shira but Kibo yet has some symptoms and thus has the probability of exploding in future.
As per available sources, a big explosion has happened here about 3lakh 60 thousand years ago and a normal explosion has occurred about 200 years ago. Climbing Kilimanjaro seems to be easier when compared with that of Mount Everest but the probability of getting affected by several health problems while climbing is very high for Kilimanjaro. As per records, the number of people died while climbing Kilimanjaro is greater than the number of people died while climbing Mount Everest.
The number of people tried to climb Kilimanjaro is also higher than that of Mount Everest. Hones Mayor is the first European to climb the Kilimanjaro Mountain.
