Children enjoy with the colorful kites on Sankranti festive season in India. It is joyful and enjoyable to fly the kites. But it is pitiful to hear that due to the flying of kites, many birds are losing their lives. Hundreds of birds die in the season of Sankranti festival due to the flying of kites in India. They die because of the use of manza thread for flying kites. Previously it was not used much. But for the last ten to fifteen years, its usage for flying the kites has increased much. Manza thread is made of strong nylon thread coated with alovera paste mixed with glass powder.
By doing so, thread becomes much stronger and sharper. Using this manza thread, other kites can be tored off easily. Children use it as an act of mischief for cutting down the kites of others and to protect their own kite. They take it as enjoyable matter and feel greater for making their kite to fly higher for longer period. But birds are affected by using these manza threads. They get strucked to the manza threads. Glass powder of the manza threads cut down the wings of birds flying and they die. Birds in general can free themselves when jammed by an ordinary thread around their neck. But they could not cut down the manza thread.
It is unlawful to torture other living beings for our enjoyment. Also it is damaging balance of environment. So it is our responsibility to use ordinary threads for flying of kites to save the birds.
