Pitcairn islands is least populated country | History of Pitcairn
Pitcairn group of islands is the least populated democratic country in the world. Its population is just fifty. For this nation of fifty people, there is a constitution. And there is government to implement it. Pitcairn islands lies as atoll in the Pacific Ocean between Australia and South America. Four islands are formed due to the hardening of lava generated from the Volcano in the ocean. All these islands form the Pitcairn country. Out of the four islands, people live in only one island. Total area of the country is just 42 square kilometers.
Only nine families live in the Pitcairn islands. All of them including old, children account to only fifty people. To rule them, a Mayor and Governor exist. 43 laws are in implementation to avoid illegal activities.
In 1767, a ship belonging to Britain was traveling in the ocean. A fifteen year old young fellow named Pitcairn in the ship shouted that there was an island there showing them. Then they named the islands as Pitcairn islands after the name of the boy. In 1790, some activists of Britain came to these islands for living. With in short time, Britain has taken the control over these islands.
There is a school in Pitcairn country also. But there are only two students. For those two students, there is a school and a teacher. Water ways is the only means of traveling to that country. One can go there only through ships. In the valleys, watermelons, bananas, sugarcane, beans etc grow well. In the Henderson Island of this country, variety of trees exists. Very special birds are visible there. This country is recognized as World Heritage site.
v Although Pitcairn is surrounded by the ocean, there is no beach. Because it lies at the height of 337 meters from the sea level.
v There are two TV channels. There are no radios.
v Total length of roads in the country is 6.4 kilometers.
v Many stationery things are imported thrice a year from the New Zealand.
v In this country, a small tourist organization also exists.
v The only one stationery shop will be kept open for an hour for thrice a week.
v Tourists going to visit this country should stay at the citizen’s houses only. Tourists have to pay 70 dollars per night.
v For the entire country, only one internet connection exists.
