There are more than one lakh brick making kilns in India.   Brick making industry is utilizing 2.5 crore tones of coal and other biomass fuels per year. 35 – 50 percent of cost or brick making is for the fuel itself.

  • Main problems with brick making are the large amount of fuel that is utilized and the pollution that is released into the air.
  • Fuel burning during brick making leads to emissions of pollutants to ash emitted into the environment.
  • Workers who work in brick kilns are constantly exposed to pollutants and this leads to skin, eye irritation and problem of lungs.
  • Pollution being caused to the environment due to the making of bricks can be reduced by using fly ash bricks and by using scientific brick kilns.
