Reindeer is the longest distance travelling mammal. Reindeer species travel 5000 kilometers or 3100 miles per year which is equivalent to that of covering an area of 3,90,000 square miles on the Earth. They travel in general with a speed of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour covering a distance of 19 to 55 kilometers every day.
Reindeers can cross ponds, big rivers easily during migration. They can swim with a speed of 6.5 to 10 kmph. They are named so because of the typical forked branch shape of their horns. Reindeers live in Arctic regions.
