January 1st is his birthday…

First among seven children. All other are daughters. Lost mother in childhood. Student of this background has become scientist that the nation feels proud of. He has presented a theory in such a level that his name is associated with the famous scientist Einstein. He is Satyendra Bose (S.N. Bose)

Born in Calcutta on January 1st, 1894, he was very sharp in studies. He has scored 110 marks out of 100 in maths at school level. Teacher has given marks for the problems which he has solved in two procedures. After that the record established by him in marks in the Calcutta University as M.Sc student is not broken till now.

In science, ‘Bose-Einstein’ theory is famous. Bose improvised the ‘Photo Electric theory’ of Einstein and this work is being most appreciated by Einstein and Bose’s name was added before his for the theory. After his studies, Bose settled as a Physics lecturer in the Calcutta University. He has sent a six page research work on Planck’s quantum theory and sent it to Einstein in Germany. Impressed with that work, Einstein translated the work into German by himself and got printed in the science paper. By this Bose got worldwide fame. After getting chance to visit Europe, Bose met Marie Curie, Einstein, Louie De-brogile and others and worked with them.

After returning from foreign, Bose who was appointed as a professor in Dhaka University, presently in Bangladesh, has done researches in Bio-chemistry, geology, zoology, anthropology and engineering. S.N. Bose, being a multi linguistic scholar, also worked in the field of literature. S.N. Bose has translated the Einstein’s theory of relativity into English. Having knowledge in music, he was playing the instrument ‘esraj’. S.N. Bose was honored with the ‘Padmabhushan’ in 1954 by the Indian Government and was also given the membership of Rajyasabha. S.N. Bose was elected as the ‘Fellow of Royal Society’ in the year 1957. Postal stamp was also released on his name. In reorganization of the services done by Bose, one of the elementary particles has been named after him as Boson.
