Is it true that rice pounder can be made to stand erect during lunar eclipse?
For any object to stand without falling, the weight caused by the earth’s gravity on that object shall be able to travel through its base. It is very difficult to make a rice pounder stand without any support as its base is very small. But at the same time it is not impossible. With a small effort it can be made to stand without any support in a plate.
As most of the people are aware, the attraction between any two objects in the universe is called gravitational force. During lunar eclipse, the gravitational force between moon and earth will be more. This force acts opposite to the earth’s gravitational force on the objects and this makes it somewhat easier to make the rice pounder stand. Some people also pour water in a place and make the rice pounder stand in it without any support. Adhesive forces formed in water helps for this. Thus there is no miracle behind making the rice pounder stand without any support during eclipse but there are scientific reasons.
